BOWRAL - Wining, dining and boutique/antique shopping
Only a short hour and twenty minutes south of Sydney, lies beautiful Bowral, the largest town in the Southern Highlands of NSW. Perfect for either a weekend getaway or quick day trip, Bowral offers culinary and boutique shopping experiences against a lush mountainous backdrop which instantly transports you to a relaxed and leisurely state. The crisp air is fresh, the woodfires fragrantly waft and you know you’re going to enjoy a day consisting of a long boozy lunch followed by some extraordinary antique shopping.
The precinct of Green Lane is situated on Banyette St and is home to Harry’s, On Green Lane and the famous Dirty Janes Market. You most certainly can spend a few hours here dining and then perusing the antiques and garden selections.
First start off with a booking at Harry’s, On Green Lane. They have two lunch sittings, 12pm and 2pm Monday to Sunday and two dinner sittings, 6pm and 8pm on Friday and Saturday, offering a two or three course meal option. Seating is both indoor and outdoor and if you’re there during the winter you can enjoy the outdoor heaters, but it’s still pretty chilly! I’d opt for sitting inside, surrounded by the unique décor which is cluttered to perfection to feast your eyes on. The quirky yet classy ambience is the perfect atmosphere for a lushy lunch.
I’d then hop across the laneway to Dirty Janes Market, which wraps around the courtyard area. Here you will lose yourself amongst modern vintage designers and genuine antiques with some of the best prices I’ve seen in NSW, you will absolutely walk away with something! Enjoy getting lost amongst the different stalls, rooms and themes, and by the time you have wrapped around to the other side you can mosey through The Potting Shed Garden Shop specialising in well priced pots, plants and garden furniture with a vintage vibe.
By this stage you may be due for an afternoon coffee, head to The Plantation café situated next to Harry’s, and recoup with a delicious hot beverage and pastry, or simply pick up a sourdough and some jam for later.
This is just one area of Bowral that you can enjoy. I'd then take a leisurely walk through the streets of Bowral, browsing and window shopping along the way.
